So I fell off Ina for the first time yesterday. It actually ended up pretty well, all things considered. First of all, I had the jumping saddle on her which is significantly less substantial than the dressage saddle. It has a much flatter seat and is overall just more slippery. It might seem kind of counter intutitive since you obviously want to be pretty secure for jumping but in dressage you really sit down on the horse and do a lot with your seat, in jumping you stand up in your stirrups and keep your butt off the saddle so that you can follow the horse's motion over a fence. Anyways, we were coming around a corner at the end of the arena just kinda trotting along when all of sudden the three stupid geldings (one of them is particularly infuriating) in the pasture near the arena took off like fricken PSYCHOS across their pasture. Horses are naturally flighty, and herd instincts take over quickly. Ina probably saw them out of the corner of her eye, freaked out, and thought OMG RUN AWAY RUN AWAY. And that's basically what she did. My reins were long and it caught me off guard, Ina went one way and I kinda went the other, I almost got back but my seat was too far gone, she started heading towards the wall while I was yelling "SHIT FUCK FUCK" and then my left shoulder kinda bounced into the wall, I really didn't hit very hard and then I just all of a sudden was off the horse and standing on the ground. You know like when the gymnasts do their balance beam dismounts and totally stick their landings, that's what it was like, just BOOM on my feet, and I still had hold of one of the reins so I just said "WHOA" and Ina stopped and that was that. Then I started smiling uncontrollably and laughing because I mean you just don't land on your feet that often when you fall off, plus I knew that eventually I would fall off Ina and so I guess I was just happy that if it had to be like that then that was pretty good! When you ride horses a lot it isn't really a matter of
if you will fall off so much as when. Hehehe, so then I got back on, we finished our ride and all was good. My left arm is a little sore today but not too bad, I'm just glad it's not broken again! Breaking the same arm three times would just be kinda sad.
Today I met up with my dad to start doing taxes and financial aid stuff. For some reason Tufts is on crack and want everything in by March 6th. That means getting the FAFSA done like last week (oops) and having both mine and my parent's taxes done. Basically it's not going to happen because my Dad hasn't even gotten all of his information to do all his taxes yet, so I guess I'll be contacting Tufts about that one. I have to get my parent's info in order to qualify for Health Professional Loans and for Tufts Institutional loans. Finances are lame!
My dad was asking me about how I liked Tufts and about the schools I hadn't heard from. He thinks I should write a letter to UGA (they don't do interviews) and tell them that I've further cemented my interest in equine and how their program is awesome, etc. He also thinks I should mention that Scott is at Georgia Tech because he thinks that might convince them more that I would actually come if accepted. He said "you know you could even call him your fiance, you know, to make it sound more of a sure thing." Hahaha, ok Dad....I don't think I'll do that though. I could just imagine, getting in, showing up, admissions people noticing a lack of engagement ring and being like hmmmm and I'd just be like "yeah that was just a ploy to get you to accept me...so I'm just gonna go over here now..." hehe, silly father. I probably should write them a letter. For now, I must continue to figure out my tax shit. I've got to get some forms for California and Oregon. bah!
PS: three posts within a week!
PPS: still not addicted to coke!
